150-pound rock rolls down Kalihi hill
No one was injured and no property was damaged when an 18-inch rock, weighing approximately 150 pounds, rolled down a hillside behind a residence on Kula Kolea Place in Kalihi on Monday evening.
According to Department of Land and Natural Resources officials, the rock came from private land. A private contractor is scheduled to assess the situation this morning.
Last year the state authorized emergency funds for a rockfall mitigation project in the same area after several large boulders rolled down the hill and struck three homes on Kula Kolea Place. The work secured other boulders, also on private land owned by a local church, that were determined to be in danger of falling.
3 adults saved after their boat runs out of fuel
The Coast Guard rescued three adults who were adrift on a recreational boat that ran out of fuel 21 miles northwest of Kailua-Kona on Sunday morning.
Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received a call from a friend of the vessel’s crew thatthe21-foot boat was running out of fuel.
A Maui-based Coast Guard 45-foot response boat, an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Barbers Point and the Coast Guard cutter Kiska were sent to the scene.

The response boat crew took the vessel in tow at 7:10 p.m. and returned it to Kawaihae Harbor.
The Coast Guard urges boaters to remain aware of their vessel’s fuel capacity and other limitations.
