The University of Hawaii football team is going to the Rose Bowl.
School officials confirmed the Rainbow Warriors will play UCLA at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 9, 2017. It will be the third meeting between the teams, and the first since 1939.
"I’m excited for the team," UH coach Norm Chow said. "It’s a storied place (The players have) had a chance to see it on television. Now they can play there."
UCLA defeated UH 32-7 in the 1939 Pineapple Bowl at Honolulu Stadium. The Bruins also won, 19-6, in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1935.
Chow, a former UCLA offensive coordinator, described the Rose Bowl as "one of the top venues in the whole country."
UH also announced that three future games have been rescheduled for later dates. The game at Washington will move from 2015 to a yet-to-be-determined year. The Navy game at Aloha Stadium will move from 2015 to 2018, and the Western Kentucky game will move from 2018 to 2022.
In other football developments, UH backup quarterback Justin Alo has decided to transfer to a junior college. Alo signed with the Warriors in February 2011, but did not join until January 2012. He redshirted this past season after suffering an arm injury. He was listed as the fifth-string quarterback exiting the past spring training.
