Experience the efforts of masterful winemakers at a "Game Changers" tasting June 19 at Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bar.
Master sommelier Chuck Furuya will lead participants through tastings of 2009 vintages Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre Rouge, Coche Dury Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Ostertag Riesling Grand Cru "Muenchberg" and Kunstler Riesling Dry "Hochheimer Domdechaney."

Garden hosts veggie-centric cooking class
Learn how to whip up salsa, salads and various appetizers from Hawaii-grown garden vegetables in the picturesque setting of Wahiawa Botanical Garden.
Teacher Natalie Melvin will present the healthful and simple recipes.
The class runs 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 25 at the garden, 1396 California Ave. Fee is $10. Make reservations at 522-7066.
Demonstration will serve up whole grains
Develop a palate for three whole grains at a "Great Grains" cooking demonstration June 27 at Castle Medical Center’s Wellness Center.
Samples of tasty and simple vegan dishes and recipes will be provided.

Halekulani chef comes in third at competition
Halekulani utility chef Gary Marcos took third place in the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Best Young Chef 2013 national competition last week in Chicago.
Competitors created three courses using ramps (wild leeks), beets, rhubarb, duck, lake trout and Vermont maple syrup.
Daniel Scott Gorman of The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia took the title. He will travel to Istanbul in September for the international finals.
Marcos graduated from the culinary program at Leeward Community College.
