Man is found critically injured after fall
City Division of Emergency Medical Services personnel transported a 27-year-old man who was critically injured Tuesday afternoon in an area across from the Makapuu Lookout, EMS reported.
The man was possibly hiking and fell from an unknown height, EMS reported. Injuries and circumstances are unknown, EMS said. The incident occurred at 12:13 p.m.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Robert Main said fire rescue personnel responded to a report from hikers who saw the man lying 75 yards below the Tom Tom trail, a ridge trail, on the Hawaii Kai side of the ridge.
Rescue personnel reached the man by helicopter and found him conscious and breathing but with multiple traumatic injuries. The man was brought by the fire helicopter at 1:46 p.m. to an EMS ambulance at Makapuu and then taken to a hospital.
Suspect sought in Makiki park robbery
Police are looking for a man who reportedly robbed a 37-year-old man at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday at a Makiki park.
Police said the suspect had engaged the other man in conversation while at the park. When it ended, the victim walked away. The suspect caught up to him, then allegedly struck him with a dangerous instrument and demanded his possessions, police said.
The victim complied and the suspect fled, police said.
Responding patrol officers could not find the suspect.
Police have opened a first-degree robbery case.
Visitor rescued after being swept off rocks
Maui fire and Ocean Safety personnel rescued a 27-year-old Canadian man who was swept off the rocks just before noon Tuesday at a West Maui beach.
A Maui fire official reported that a call came at 11:58 a.m. of a man swept off the rocks at the Olivine Pools north of Kahakuloa Bay. The man was visiting from Calgary, Alberta, the fire official said.
The Fire Department dispatched a rescue boat, a rescue crew, a helicopter and an engine, and Ocean Safety sent out a rescue watercraft.
Ocean Safety’s craft was first on scene and found the man exhausted, and rescuers placed him on the rescue watercraft, a fire official said.
The man was airlifted by fire helicopter to a landing zone on shore. Firefighters treated the man, who received a few cuts on his legs and feet, but he did not require transport to the hospital.
Beachgoers threw the man a boogieboard to stay afloat until rescue personnel arrived, and also called 911.
Video of break-in attempts leads to arrests
A surveillance tape caught two men trying to break into two Ala Moana area businesses last weekend.
Police said the burglaries occurred Saturday and Sunday.
The two men, ages 53 and 41, were arrested Monday night on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
Bicyclist hurt in collision with car in Aiea
Paramedics took a 31-year-old woman to the hospital in serious condition Tuesday morning after the bicycle she was riding collided with a car in Aiea.
Emergency Medical Services said the accident occurred at 6:13 a.m. on Kamehameha Highway and Kalaloa Street.
