Oahu nonprofit groups may now request as little as $25,000, instead of a minimum of $50,000, from the city’s new Grants in Aid Fund, city officials announced Monday.
Pam Witty-Oakland, director of the Department of Community Services, said it became apparent following Wednesday’s information session that the original minimum grant amount of $50,000 needed to be lowered.
The city will hold an additional information session on the program from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the hearing room at the Mission Memorial Building, 550 S. King St., next to Honolulu Hale.
Nonprofit groups must attend at least one session to be eligible for the grants. Grant applications are due at 10 a.m. Friday.
The fund has about $5.5 million available in the coming fiscal year, which begins July 1.
A City Charter amendment passed by voters in 2012 requires that one-half percent of city property tax revenues go into the fund.
Representatives of more than 200 organizations have attended the sessions, city officials said.
