Boxers move on at nationals
Four of Hawaii’s six remaining boxers advanced to today’s semifinals after winning their respective quarterfinal bouts at the USA Boxing Junior Olympic National Championships in Mobile, Ala.
Junior World Team open champion Keonie Adric Jr. of Haleiwa and Kawano Boxing Club won by unanimous decision at 132 pounds over Michael Rivera of Houston. Also winning by unanimous decision at 132 was Honolulu’s Cole Dante (Kawano BC) over Colorado’s Jonathan Jarabek. Should both Hawaii boxers win today, they would meet in Saturday’s final.
Two other Kawano BC boxers advanced by 2-1 split decisions. Honolulu’s Logan Yoon won at 119 pounds over Mack Allison of Baltimore, and Kawelo Alcos of Waipahu won at 101 pounds over Jordan Whit of Waldorf, Md.
Losing their quarterfinal bouts by unanimous decision were Michaiah Soares of Molokai Southside BC, who lost to Edgar Berlanga of Brooklyn, N.Y., at 154 pounds, and Kauai’s Kristopher Alcos, who lost to Edward Rojans of Lakewood, Wash., at 110.
Three other Hawaii boxers lost in the first round Wednesday, including Dante’s twin brother Colt, who fell 2-1 to Fresno’s Isidro Ochoa at 125 pounds. Losing by unanimous decision were Hilo’s Sergio Mamone Jr. (Hawaii International BC) at 138 pounds to Money Powell of Columbus, Ga., and Manabe Hunter-Cabriel (Molokai Southside BC) at 145 pounds to Hans Perez of Staten Island, N.Y.
International cricket on Maui
The Emu Plains Cricket Club from Sydney, Australia, takes on two Hawaii clubs for the Currie Cup this weekend at Baldwin Beach Park in Paia, Maui.
Saturday’s match is against the Honolulu Cricket Club and Sunday’s is against host Maui Cricket Club. Both matches start at 11 a.m.

Freedom Run coming up
The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii’s annual Freedom Run/Walk is scheduled for July 4 in Kailua.
