Sataraka homers twice for U.S. in win
Honolulu’s Mysha Sataraka hit two home runs to power the U.S. to a 13-0 win over the Czech Republic in the International Softball Federation Junior Women’s World Championships on Tuesday in Brampton, Ontario.
The Punahou graduate walked in her first at-bat, then hit three-run homers in the second and third innings and the U.S. improved to 3-0 in pool play in the 19-and-under championship. Two U.S. pitchers combined on a four-inning no-hitter and the game ended due to the 10-run rule.
The U.S. Junior Women’s National team faces Puerto Rico and Canada today.
Haverford’s Caulfield earns scholarship
Haverford College’s Kevin Caulfield, a 2009 Punahou alumnus, was granted an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship on Monday.
Caulfield, who earned all-conference honors all four years in singles and three times in doubles, was recently named the Philadelphia Inquirer’s academic all-area performer of the year in men’s tennis.
Caulfield advanced to the round of 16 in the 2013 NCAA tournament, which earned him All-America status.
He finished his career tied for second on the school’s all-time wins list in singles with 57 victories.
