The wait is almost over. After taking 2012 off, the Society of Professional Journalists’ Gridiron show is back with another riotous revue poking fun at the people and events that made headlines.
"Gridiron 2013: #SequesterThis" runs Aug. 23 and 24 at Diamond Head Theatre. A sneak peek at the program revealed a hit list that includes Manti Te’o, "art critic" and state lawmaker Faye Hanohano, and Lanai’s new owner, Larry Ellison.
Performers representing print, broadcast and online media include Ben Gutierrez, Dan Cooke, Gordon Pang, Jodi Leong, Howard Dicus, Tannya Joaquin, Olena Heu, Lisa Kubota, Chad Blair, Kristen Consillio, Christine Strobel and Justin Cruz. Veteran stage songtress Cathy Foy also is back to contribute show-stopping musical numbers.
Robbie Dingeman and Keoki Kerr are the artistic directors who have kept the show going in recent years, and Ahnya Chang is director and choreographer.
Anna Gomes is providing additional choreography, and Roslyn Catracchia is music director. The technical director is Theresa Riedman.
With only three performances — at 8 p.m. Aug. 23 and 3 and 8 p.m. Aug. 24 — the show’s string of sellouts is likely to continue. Tickets are $40 and $60 and go on sale at 8 a.m. Friday at www.ticketmaster.com, which provides an interactive seating chart.
To charge by phone, call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000. Tickets also can be purchased at Ticketmaster outlets at Blaisdell Arena and Walmart stores.
The Gridiron show is a benefit for the Society of Professional Journalists’ Hawaii Chapter’s student internship and scholarship programs. Tickets are not tax-deductible.
