The parent company for Roy’s restaurants says it strengthened its software security and notified credit card companies after one of its corporate computers was hacked, potentially breaching credit and debit card information for patrons who visited restaurants in Hawaii between Feb. 1 and 25.
The Roy’s locations in Ko Olina, Waikiki, Kaanapali, Poipu and Waikoloa were affected by the computer malware infection, according to a Friday afternoon release from Roy’s Holdings Inc.
The company said it had forensics and security investigators look into the scope of the virus and identify those who might have been affected. Roy’s said it reported the incident to the U.S. Secret Service; notified Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express; and worked with experts to install additional computer security safeguards.
Roy’s said it "regrets any inconvenience," and it has established a confidential hotline for individuals with questions or concerns to call toll-free 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 877-215-3618.
The Federal Trade Commission also urges anyone who finds ID theft to file a complaint at 877-438-4338.
