Pedestrian on highway hit by pickup
A pickup truck struck a 24-year-old man who was walking on Pali Highway on Saturday night, critically injuring the pedestrian, police said.
The accident happened on the leeward side at about 10:40 p.m. near the Pali Tunnel in the Kailua-bound lanes. Paramedics took the man, who police said lives at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, to the hospital in critical condition. Police said the overhead lights in the area were not working Saturday.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors on the part of the driver, a Kailua man. Police said it is not known whether the victim had been drinking.
Investigators closed Pali Highway in the Kailua-bound direction until about 2 a.m.
