City identifies pedestrian killed by truck
The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 24-year-old man who died earlier this week from injuries he suffered last weekend when he was struck crossing the Pali Highway as Levy Rivera.
Rivera was struck by a pickup truck Saturday and died at a hospital Monday.
Police said Rivera, who has a Marine Corps Base Hawaii address, was crossing the Kailua-bound lanes of the highway, near the tunnels, when he was struck by the Kailua-bound truck. There was no immediate comment from the Marine Base at Kaneohe Bay on whether Rivera was a Marine or a dependent.
The cause of Rivera’s death was pending further investigation.
The driver of the truck was uninjured.
This was Oahu’s 35th traffic death, compared with 31 at the same time last year.
