Lending Club falls short of Transpac record
The Tritium Racing boat Lending Club was expected to finish late Thursday night, coming up short in a bid for the fastest elapsed-time finisher in the history of the Transpacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu.
Corrected time leaders Thursday included Wizard (Division 1), Beecom (D-2), Pyewacket (D-3), Resolute (D-4), Foil (D-5), Horizon (D-6), Ten Quarter (D-7) and Dorade (D-8).
Fujikawa fails to make cut in eGolf event
Tadd Fujikawa of Honolulu shot a 2-over-par 74 Thursday, missing the cut by nine shots in the eGolf Tour’s HGM Hotels Classic in Conover, N.C.
Fujikawa had a two-day total of 151. Bruce Woodall of Yanceyville, N.C., a former University of Virginia player, held the 36-hole lead with a 12-under 132.
Galdiano leads by 6 in Junior World Golf
State high school champion Mariel Galdiano extended her lead Thursday at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego.
Galdiano shot 3-under-par 69 for the second straight day at Torrey Pines North and takes a six-shot advantage into the final round.
The Punahou sophomore is at 8-under 208 after three rounds of the Girls 15-17 competition. Pearl City’s Brittany Fan (74—220) is tied for 13th, and Honolulu’s Ji Hae Lee (79—223) dropped to 28th.
The field was cut in the girls and boys 15-17 divisions Thursday, and the younger age groups concluded. Hawaii’s Malia Nam and Jacob Torres had top-20 finishes.
Punahou’s Samiere eliminated in Publinx
One birdie was not enough for Punahou senior P.J. Samiere in Thursday’s second round of the 88th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Samiere fell to Kyle Henning, from Brookfield, Wis., 5 and 4, at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va. Samiere never led and Henning clinched it with four birdies in five holes to take a 5-up advantage after No. 13.
