Two-time champion Dennis Lajola and professional partner Michael Yani are the top seeds in the 43rd annual Blue Moon Men’s Night Doubles tournament at Kailua Racquet Club. Qualifying begins Sunday.
Two-time defending champions Mikael Maatta and Jan Axel Tribler are seeded second, followed by Ikaika Jobe and Thomas Shubert and four-time champions Wei Yu Su and Minh Le.
Jobe has won three Night Doubles titles — two with Lajola.
Lajola has been playing professionally since helping the University of Hawaii to WAC championships in 2009 and 2010, and earning WAC Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2011.
Yani is ranked 262nd in the world and has been as high as No. 143. The 32-year-old was born in Singapore and lives in Durham, N.C.
The $7,500 tournament has matches scheduled at 6 and 7:15 each night. The main draw begins next Sunday, with the final Aug. 3 at 7:15 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public. Dinner will be available for purchase. The club is located at 629 Oneawa St.
This is the final stop in Hawaii’s Triple Crown of Tennis. The top point getters in the series earn a wild card berth in the Royal Lahaina Challenger.
