Fink up to fifth place in Canada
Defending champion David Fink moved into fifth place, shooting 3-under-par 67 in Wednesday’s second round of the 47th Pacific Coast Amateur.
Fink, a two-time Manoa Cup champion from Kailua, stands at 3-under 137 at the midway point at Capilano Golf and Country Club, in West Vancouver, Canada.
He is seven shots behind leader Tyler Raber, from California. Honolulu’s Lorens Chan (72—141) is tied for 20th.
» Kailua’s PJ Samiere won his first-round match in the U.S. Junior Amateur, at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif. The Punahou senior defeated Sam Meuret, 4 and 3. Samiere plays Wilson Furr, from Mississippi in this morning’s second round.
» In the U.S. Girls Junior, at Sycamore Hills Golf Club, in Fort Wayne, Ind., Mexico’s Maria Fassi rallied from 4 down to defeat Punahou sophomore Allisen Corpuz. Fassi had three straight birdies and an eagle to square the match on the 15th. The 15-year-olds halved the next three to send it to extra holes, where Fassi birdied the par-4 second to win, 1-up, on the 20th.
» In the 100th Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur, at Club de golf Beloeil in Beloeil, Quebec, Kacie Komoto (74—149) is tied for 26th. The Punahou graduate is 10 shots back. Kauai’s Kelli Oride (75—155) is tied for 60th.
» In the AJGA Bob Jones Junior Championship, at Yorba Linda (Calif.) Country Club, Hawaii’s Hansol Koo and Mariel Galdiano moved into the top four.
Koo (70—141) is seven shots out of first and Galdiano (70—144) is 10. The tournament ends today.
»â€ˆLion Rogers shot a 71 to finish the Pearl Junior Open 2-under par and win the boys’ 15-18 flight at Pearl Country Club on Wednesday. Rose Huang won the girls’ 15-18 flight with a two-round total of 148 to beat Erica Chiang by eight strokes.
