OHTA-SAN HEADLINES UKULELE FESTIVAL | 1. Ukulele virtuoso Herb "Ohta-san" Ohta, center, talked backstage at the 43rd Annual Ukulele Festival Hawaii with Cathy Sakuma, left; her husband and festival founder, Roy Sakuma; Stan Masamitsu, president of the Tony Group Autoplex; and his wife, Masumi Masamitsu. Sakuma's students performed at the July 21 event at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Tony Group Autoplex was this year's title sponsor of the six-hour concert, which featured ukulele players from Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and California as well as some of Hawaii's stars: Ohta-san, Herb Ohta Jr. and Brittni Paiva, to name three.

A 'SECRET RESCUE' REMEMBERED | 5. Cate Lineberry signed a copy of her newly published book, "The Secret Rescue," at an impromptu book-signing July 18 at Barnes & Noble in Ala Moana Center. The book documents the survival and eventual rescue of 26 American nurses and medics whose plane crashed behind German lines in Albania during World War II.

Paxton, usually a leading man, plays against type as a devious attorney.
