Armed robbers hit hotel room
Police are looking for three men who robbed a couple in their Waikiki hotel room Tuesday night.
The robbery occurred just before midnight, police said, when the three men entered the hotel room and one brandished a weapon, police said. They left with items belonging to a man, 23, and a woman, 27.
The three men, one in his 20s, one in his 30s, and the other in his 40s, are wanted on two counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree burglary.
Stolen car’s driver arrested
Hawaii County police arrested a 37-year-old Honomu man Wednesday allegedly in possession of a car that was used in two attempted robberies in Hilo, police said.
At 11:40 a.m., a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm attempted to rob the cashier at a gas station on Kaumana Drive, police said. He left without getting any cash. The cashier was not injured.
About 20 minutes later, the same man attempted to rob an employee at a recycling center off Waianuenue Avenue but again was unsuccessful, police said. The employee was not injured.
The suspect fled in a white Suzuki Samurai that had been reported stolen.
About 3:20 p.m., while conducting checks in the Honomu area, officers spotted the car at a Honomu residence, police said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. He was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation.
8 pounds of pot spurs arrest
Hawaii island police said a Puna man was arrested at Hilo Airport last week with 8 pounds of marijuana in his carry-on bag.
The 39-year-old Mountain View man was arrested at 6:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of first-degree attempted commercial promotion of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia. Police said they recovered a duffel bag with four 2-pound bags of marijuana in the airport terminal, where the man was waiting for his flight.
He was taken to the Hilo police cellblock, and released pending further investigation.
Gambling raid puts 5 in jail
Hawaii County police seized gaming machines and arrested two men and three women after a raid Friday on a Hilo arcade.
Vice officers recovered eight gambling devices, including slot machines and computers used for gambling, from Hilo Arcade, 138 Kinoole St. Police also recovered $1,447 in cash, police said.
At the arcade, police arrested two female employees, ages 19 and 23, on suspicion of promoting gambling, possession of gambling devices and possession of gambling records. A 19-year-old female employee was also arrested Tuesday.
Two Keaau men, ages 25 and 27, identified as the business owners, were arrested Monday and Tuesday.
