UH issues alert after attempted attack
A female student at the University of Hawaii reported that a man tried to grab her Wednesday afternoon as she walked on Dole Street near Gateway House, campus security said.
A security alert was issued for the Manoa campus shortly after the 3:15 p.m. incident was reported.
The male suspect was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 220 pounds, with a shaved head and graying goatee. He was wearing a gray T-shirt and gray shorts, sunglasses and had a black cap.
Killing of cat in Kapolei is investigated
A Kapolei man is under investigation in the death of his neighbor’s cat, which was killed with a pellet gun.
The neighbor, a 29-year-old woman, told police that she saw the suspect shoot her cat just before midnight Tuesday.
The suspect, 27, was released pending further investigation of a possible first-degree animal cruelty charge.
Man arrested in convenience store stickup
Police arrested a 23-year-old man in the robbery of an Ewa Beach convenience store early Wednesday.
At 1:45 a.m. a man wearing a hooded jacket and a mask entered the store and demanded cigarettes and all the money from the cash register, then ran away, police said.
The store employee immediately called police, and officers found the suspect in the area. Police arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
Videos give clues to store robberies
Police detectives released security camera videos of a suspect or suspects in the robberies of Ono’s Market on Kalihi Street and Yobo Mart on Pensacola Street on July 19.
Both videos show a suspect wearing a long-sleeve shirt, shorts and slippers, holding a handgun and demanding money, although police are not saying whether the cases are related.
Ono’s Market was robbed at 5:16 a.m., Yobo Mart at 7:38 p.m.
Police are asking anyone with information on the case to call detectives or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on a cellphone.
