Manuel wins Ford Supergirl Pro
Kauai’s Malia Manuel dominated the competition on her way to claiming the top prize at the Association of Surfing Professionals 6-Star Ford Supergirls Pro on Sunday in Oceanside, Calif.
In 3- to 5-foot surf, Manuel posted a two-wave score of 17.24 in the final, routing New Zealand’s Paige Hareb (3.37). The 19-year-old had the top scores in the semifinals and round of 12, putting her in position for her first win of the year.
The victory netted Manuel $8,000.
Makaha’s Alessa Quizon placed equal-third after falling to Hareb in the semifinals, 12.00 to 7.60. In the quarterfinals, Quizon eliminated Sunset Beach’s Coco Ho 13.77 to 10.30.
Dolan places 11th overall in Ontario
Kailua’s Ryan Dolan finished in second place in the under-23 K1 200-meter kayak B final and 11th overall at the ICF Junior and Under-23 Sprint World Championships on Sunday in Welland, Ontario.
Dolan finished in a time of 25.817 seconds, 0.167 behind winner Franck Le Moel of France.
