Man charged in attempted murder of teen
A 30-year-old Palolo man was charged Friday with attempting to kill a 17-year-old boy during a fight in Kakaako.
Son Alexander was charged with second-degree attempted murder in the incident, which occurred Aug. 2. His bail was set at $75,000.
The suspect allegedly assaulted the boy with a dangerous instrument.
He is scheduled to enter a plea in District Court on Monday.
Electrical malfunction caused house fire
A fire in Pupukea on Thursday that destroyed a home on Alapio Road and displaced nine people was caused by an electrical malfunction in the cord of a floor lamp, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
Fire investigators have classified the cause as accidental.
The fire began in a second-floor bedroom. In addition to gutting the home, the blaze also destroyed four vehicles: one pickup truck, two sedans and a motorcycle.
Damage was estimated at $250,000 to the structure, $50,000 to the contents and $70,000 to the four vehicles, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 12:10 a.m., and firefighters completely extinguished it by 8:13 a.m.
No one was injured.
Man dies in apparent drowning on Maui
Maui police are investigating the apparent drowning of a man at Tavares Bay in Paia on Friday.
Firefighters responding to an 11:08 a.m. emergency call found the man floating face down in the shore break. Firefighters pulled the man out of the water and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
