Jeremy Castro, a former UCLA linebacker, will join the Hawaii football team.
Castro recently notified UH officials of his intent to transfer and accept a football scholarship.
On Friday, he received notice he was officially admitted into UH. UH’s fall semester begins Aug. 26.
Castro must redshirt this season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. He will be allowed to practice. After this year, he will have four years to play four seasons.
Castro, who is 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, signed with UCLA in 2012 but did not meet the requirements to enroll in school that fall.
After earning a qualifying ACT score, he enrolled at UCLA in January and participated in the Bruins’ spring training.
Castro was not on the Bruins’ training-camp roster.
As a Vista Murrieta High senior in 2012, Castro received a 4-star rating from Scout.com.
Rivals.com rated Castro No. 16 nationally among weakside defensive ends.
Warriors go to Pearl
The Rainbow Warriors took a break from field work to go on a field trip Saturday afternoon.
Instead of the listed afternoon practice, they visited the USS Arizona Memorial and then toured the USS Missouri.
Coach Norm Chow said Pearl Harbor officials arranged the private tours.
"It’s important for our players to learn about history," Chow said.
The Warriors are training at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam through Tuesday.
Anguay back at RB
"I’ve been traded," Samson Anguay said after taking reps with the running backs during Saturday’s practice.
Anguay was recruited as a slotback three years ago. He grayshirted in 2010 and missed the next two seasons because of separate ACL injuries.
He recently was medically cleared to play, but was moved to running back. Last week, he was at slotback. With injuries in the backfield, Anguay was moved to running back again.
Running back Joey Iosefa is recovering from a foot injury. Diocemy Saint Juste has been held out of contact drills because of hamstring issues. Aofaga Wily did not practice because of a sore foot. Steven Lakalaka has complained of dizziness.
Sainte Juste, Wily and Lakalaka are expected to resume practice this week. In the meantime, Willis Wilson, Jason Muraoka and Anguay are splitting the reps.
Muraoka played well in Friday’s scrimmage at Aloha Stadium, rushing nine times for 31 yards.
