Highway crash kills motorcyclist, 28
A 28-year-old Kaneohe man died Sunday upon crashing his motorcycle into a guardrail on Likelike Highway.
Honolulu police said the 4:10 a.m. crash happened in the Kaneohe-bound lanes about 240 feet makai of the Wilson Tunnel.
Police said the man was wearing a helmet.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Emergency Medical Services.
It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, but speed was a factor, police said.
The road was dry and illuminated by overhead lighting at the time of the crash.
Police closed the Kaneohe-bound lanes of Likelike Highway until about 9 a.m. while Traffic Division officers investigated the scene.
Mauka-bound traffic was rerouted at Nalanieha Street.
Police said the death is the 40th traffic fatality this year on Oahu, compared with 43 at this time in 2012.
Later Sunday an 18-year-old male driver was seriously injured in a crash on Kalanianaole Highway.
According to an Emergency Medical Services report, paramedics took the man to the hospital in serious condition after the single-car accident near Ainakoa Street at about 5:30 a.m.
Suspect sought in arcade theft attempt
Honolulu police released security camera video Sunday of a suspect who apparently tried to break into the coin box of an electronic game at the Pearl City Winner’z Zone store.
Police said the suspect damaged the game by prying the door open at 11:57 p.m. July 26.
Police posted the video on the Honolulu Police Department YouTube channel and on its website at honolulupd.org.

Witnesses confront alleged boat thief
Witnesses stopped a suspected boat thief Saturday as he was allegedly towing a boat that didn’t belong to him out of Honolulu Harbor, police said.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m., and police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree theft about two hours later, according to police records.
Police said witnesses observed the man towing the boat out of the harbor and confronted him.
Arrests made after stolen car is spotted
Police caught two alleged car thieves Saturday after a witness saw a friend’s stolen car being driven around Waipahu, police said.
Officers arrested a 48-year-old Aiea man on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, driving without a license and second- and third-degree drug offenses, according to police records. His passenger, a 44-year-old Waipahu woman, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
The 29-year-old owner’s friend notified police at about 4:30 p.m. that he saw the stolen vehicle being driven by the suspects. They were identified and arrested about an hour later on Awalau Street, police said.
Assault turns theft into robbery, police say
A suspected shoplifter is now facing robbery charges after she allegedly assaulted a security officer at a store in the Market City Shopping Center.
Honolulu police said the 22-year-old woman assaulted the officer as he tried to stop her from leaving with concealed merchandise she did not pay for just after 2 p.m. Saturday.
Officers arrested the woman, who does not have a local address, at about 3:30 p.m. at Foodland, according to police records.
