Florence, Patacchia ousted in Tahiti
Hawaii surfers John John Florence and Fredrick Patacchia were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Billabong Pro Tahiti on Sunday.
Australia’s Adrian Buchan ousted Florence 19.17-17.33 and Kelly Slater bounced Patacchia 16.86-8.66 in 4- to 6-foot waves at Teahupo’o, Tahiti. Buchan defeated Slater in the final, 18.94-17.00.
Florence was awarded the Andy Irons most committed award while tying for fifth overall.
Hayashi leads at Hall of Fame event
Kevin Hayashi of Nanea Golf Club leads the Visa Hall of Fame Championship by a stroke after Sunday’s first round.
Hayashi’s 74 has him one ahead of TJ Figueroa entering today’s final round among 33 Aloha Section PGA pros at the Kapalua Plantation Course.
Lenny wins SUP title in Germany
Maui’s Kai Lenny dominated the competition to win the overall title of last weekend’s Camp David World Cup of Stand Up Paddling in Hamburg, Germany.
Lenny won both the sprint and long-distance races. In the 10-lap distance race, he reached a top speed of 14 mph in pulling away from 10 other elite paddlers.
The overall victory kept Lenny in second place in the SUP World Tour standings, behind Maui’s Connor Baxter. The World Series moves to the U.S. for the first stop of the U.S. Trilogy, this weekend’s event in Chicago.
