Hilo Hattie items celebrate coffee
Hilo Hattie has partnered with the Hawaii Coffee Association, launching a line of products celebrating the 200th anniversary of coffee cultivation in Hawaii.
Shoppers at Hilo Hattie’s seven stores, including the flagship store at 700 N. Nimitz Highway, will find mugs, coasters, T-shirts printed with coffee-related designs, and a line of coffee-inspired aloha shirts utilizing Hilo Hattie’s new Classic Sandcloth.
The first evidence of coffee plants in Hawaii is a journal entry by Don Francisco de Paula y Marin dated Jan. 21, 1813, about having planted coffee seedlings on Oahu. Today Hawaii’s coffee industry involves hundreds of farmers from Hawaii island to Kauai.
