A Circuit Court jury will resume deliberations this morning in State Department special agent Christopher Deedy’s murder trial.

The panel spent three full days this week and the afternoon of Aug. 15 deliberating in the case.

Deedy, 29, who was in Hawaii for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference, is charged with shooting Kollin Elderts, 23, of Kailua, early Nov. 5, 2011, at the McDonald’s restaurant on Kuhio Avenue.

The jury heard 20 days of testimony through more than a month in the highly publicized trial before Circuit Judge Karen Ahn.

The jury must decide whether to acquit or convict Deedy of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life prison term with possibility of parole.

The panel was not given the option of convicting Deedy on a lesser manslaughter charge, which carries a maximum 20-year prison term.
