Woman arrested in fatal Puna stabbing

A 27-year-old Pahoa woman was being held by Hawaii County police in the fatal stabbing of a 42-year-old man Wednesday night in Puna.

The man was found by police and firefighters who responded to a 10:44 p.m. call of a reported stabbing at a home on Kawakawa Street in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision.

He was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he died at 11:30 p.m.

His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Maui crash sends 2 victims to hospital

Two people were hospitalized in critical condition at Maui Memorial Medical Center after a two-vehicle crash late Wednesday night in Kihei.

Maui police said a 20-year-old Wailuku man and his 19-year-old passenger from Pukalani were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following the 10:58 p.m. accident.

The man was driving a white 1995 Honda Civic sedan and was making a left turn from Piikea Avenue to Piilani Highway.

The sedan collided with a gray 2006 Nissan Frontier pickup truck that was traveling north on Piilani. The truck overturned, ending up on its passenger side on the northbound lane of the highway.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man from Kihei, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released, Maui police said.

Korean tourist injured in bike accident

A 25-year-old visitor from South Korea broke his ankle Thursday when the bicycle he was riding went off Haleakala Crater Road at the eight-mile marker.

Maui firefighters hiked down to the man and provided first aid. He was carried up a 30-foot embankment and taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was treated for a compound fracture of his right ankle.

Suspects in robbery picked up in sweep

Hawaii County authorities on Wednesday arrested and charged two 30-year-old Puna men suspected of robbing a 56-year-old woman at her Leilani Estates subdivision home last month.

During a warrants sweep in Hawaiian Beaches, police arrested Mark McCurley of Hawaiian Beaches and Kawika Kahee of the Black Sand subdivision at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

McCurley was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree theft and kidnapping. His bail was set at $85,000.

Kahee was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree theft and third-degree assault. His bail was set at $37,000.

Police said the woman reported three people, who were invited to her home July 24, used force against her and stole several items.

The third suspect has not been identified.
