A helicopter crashed Tuesday afternoon in a pineapple field a mile south of Wheeler Army Airfield, injuring two men aboard, a Navy spokeswoman said in a prepared statement.
The civilian pilot and passenger got out of the downed helicopter on their own, Agnes Tauyan said.
The Federal Fire Department and Honolulu Police Department responded to a distress call at 5:15 p.m. by the Wheeler Army Airfield control tower.
The fire department provided medical treatment at the scene and transported the two men to a hospital for further evaluation and medical treatment.
Police contacted the Federal Aviation Administration.
