A District Court judge has ruled that the Harmon tower at CityCenter is unsafe and can be demolished. A pending lawsuit between MGM Resorts International (MRI) and the project’s general contractor had blocked the demolition until now.
It was originally planned as a 48-story hotel/condominium. Construction was halted at 26 stories in 2008 when structural defects were discovered. That lawsuit, which will determine who’s responsible for more than $400 million in damages, is set to begin in February. MRI says that it could take up to a year to complete the demolition and that it has not developed a plan for what it will do with the space.
