With a renovated wing and a prayer, the Hawaii football team celebrated its new locker room.
The project, which had been in the wishing stage for years, received a boost from capital-improvement-project appropriations.
While there are more carpentry details to complete, the Rainbow Warriors will be allowed to use the locker room today. There will be individual lockers that will include sections to store equipment and personal items.
The Warriors had been using a cramped locker room in the athletic department complex since the renovation began in June.
Former UH offensive lineman Joe Onosai, now a pastor, led the blessing.
Tulimasealii ready
Defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii admitted there was a "little pressure" being billed as one of the Rainbow Warriors’ top recruits.
"I didn’t worry about it," said Tulimasealii, a 2013 Waianae High graduate. "I tried to do what I do best. I prayed to God, and have God do what’s best for me."
Tulimasealii is set to make his UH debut in Saturday’s road game against Nevada. He missed UH’s first two games because of a torn MCL.
He was on the travel roster for the Sept. 7 game against Oregon State, although there was no intention to play him.
He said he is a "little rusty, but I’m getting there."
He is used at defensive tackle in the base formation and defensive end when the Warriors are in a three-man front.
Clay seeks release; mom ill
Cornerback Brian Clay has requested a release from his football scholarship, citing his mother’s health. His mother is suffering from multiple sclerosis.
Clay played in eight games as a freshman in 2011, then redshirted last year.
Sixth year granted
Tight end Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson has been granted a sixth year of eligibility that will allow him to play in 2014.
Pu‘u-Robinson is a Baldwin High graduate who transferred from Washington State last year. He has played in only two of a possible 14 UH games because of injuries.
He missed the first two games because of a shoulder injury. He is expected to play against Nevada.
