‘A-line’ collection debuts at Macy’s
Local designer Lynn Sakutori has launched a contemporary casual collection called "a-line" at Macy’s.
Sakutori said she could never find quality knits for herself and wanted to create a line that would be stylish, affordable and versatile. It took her several months to develop a pill-free fabric thick enough for conservative customers and that would complement women’s figures. She has road-tested the knits herself and says they do not wear out or fade easily with machine washing.
The collection comprises 15 styles, including a double-layered pencil skirt, maxi dresses, leggings and tunics, at $58 to $128. Pieces mix and match with wardrobes from casual to dressy.
The collection is constructed in Hawaii and exclusive to Macy’s Island Attitude Department.
Swatch art marks store’s opening
Swatch will celebrate the opening of its new Ala Moana location with an exhibit of photos by Swatch Proteam surfer Kassia Meador depicting her passion for surfing, paddleboarding and travel.
Meet Meador between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday. One person will win a Swatch that she designed.
The new store is on the street level, Center Court.

Fall trends featured in floral exhibit
Sogetsu sensei Linda Hamasaki and her students will present an exhibit of "On the Edge" flower arrangements Friday through Sunday at Neiman Marcus, inspired by fall’s fashion trends and colors.
The exhibit will showcase unconventional materials such as black plastic hangers paired with natural materials manipulated into innovative forms, in 40-plus arrangements created by students. One of the highlights will be a collection of five large arrangements using vases by Masuo Ojima, a master potter and artist from Los Angeles.
The exhibit at the Ala Moana Center store runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 951-8887.
Red, purple pieces draw the spotlight
Ki-ele designer Marylea Conrad will host a fall trunk show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Nordstrom, Ala Moana Center, in the second-floor jewelry department.
Among items to be featured will be jewelry in red and purple hues, and Conrad will take custom orders for Zayit bar necklaces and bracelets, allowing shoppers to select charms to add to each piece.
Brides invited to chat it up
Four Seasons Resorts Lanai has partnered with Green Wedding Shoes to present a Google+Hangout bridal chat at noon today, and all are invited to join the conversation. The event, hosted by wedding expert and Green Wedding Shoes website founder Jen Campbell, will offer advice and cover trends in fashion, florals, cuisine, venues, vows and honeymoons.
