Alleged Circuit Court escapee is caught
Deputy sheriffs caught a 26-year-old man after he allegedly fled Circuit Court on Thursday when his probation officer alerted deputies to detain him.
Kimo L. Byrd fled the courthouse at about 1:30 p.m.; deputy sheriffs chased after him through Restaurant Row and caught him on Channel Street, according to Toni Schwartz, spokeswoman of the Department of Public Safety. Sheriffs arrested him on suspicion of escape.
Byrd is on probation after he was convicted of two counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault. In March 2009 a circuit judge sentenced him to five years’ probation and ordered him to pay $1,900 in restitution.
Event at shooting range helps food bank
The public is invited to Hawaii’s 23rd annual National Hunting and Fishing Day this weekend at the Koko Head Shooting Complex.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program and local hunting and fishing clubs are holding the event to support the Hawaii Foodbank from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the shooting complex, 8102 Kalanianaole Highway, on the slopes of Koko Crater.
Attendees will learn about safety relating to shooting sports and recreational hunting and fishing. Eye and ear protection are required.
Participants are asked to bring canned goods to support the food bank. For every canned good or $1 donated, donors will receive an activity coupon to participate in various activities during the event.

Missing woman is found unhurt
Hawaii island police have found 35-year-old Claudette Morell of Kapaau, who was reported missing this week.
She was found unharmed Thursday morning in Honokaa.
System work will slow water
The Kauai Department of Water is issuing a water conservation request for the Wainiha area from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to accommodate a scheduled DOW system upgrade.
Area residents are asked to limit water consumption to essential uses, officials said in a news release Thursday. The department will run pumps manually to provide water to the affected area. However, the water source capacity will be operating at a reduced status.
