11 Harlequins selected as all-stars
Eleven members of the reigning state champion Hawaii Harlequins Rugby Football Club have been named to the Rugby Hawaii Union state all-star team that will be compete against the Auckland College Rifles from New Zealand in November.
Selected were Tomas Poti, Nate Powelson, Thomas Ray, Kamalu Umu, Jonathan and Saumnoa Tupea. Also Thierry Daupin, Semisi Uinitoni-Kakau, Jimmy Mule, Kaipo Sarkissian and Risiate Meke Kalougata.
Also representing the Quins are Joe Santos, back line coach, and team trainer Ruz Rusnick.
The all-star match is scheduled for Nov. 23 at Kapiolani Park.
Amateur boxing card in Pearl City
Pearlside Boxing Club will host an amateur fight card Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Momilani Community Center in Pearl City.

OluKai wins another team title
Team OluKai capped its 16th consecutive Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association team title run with a fifth-place finish in the Kendall Cup, the seventh and final event of the HSCA season.
The Kauai-based Kamakani Eleu, captained by master steersman Marvin Otsuji, finished fifth out of six canoes in the 45-mile race from Kalapaki to Waimea but had won four previous races for 56 points. Tui Tonga, which won the Kendall Cup coastal race, finished with two victories and 53 points. Aukai O Maui, with one win, accumulated 45 points followed by Nalu Koa (1 win, 44 points). Kamalii O Ke Kai and Kamaka Koa shared sixth place with 33 points.
Ka Iwi Coast run offers closed course
The Ka Iwi Coast Run & Walk, a fundraiser for Hui Nalu Canoe Club, will have portions of its 4-mile course on Kalanianaole Highway closed for a pedestrian race for the first time.
The Oct. 6 event stretches from Sandy Beach to Maunalua Bay, with the Ka Iwi Coast portion of Kalanianaole Highway closed to vehicular traffic from the Sandy Beach start until the entrance to Hanauma Bay. Traffic will be contraflowed through Lunalilo Home Road.
Free shuttles to the start line will be provided from the Hawaii Kai Park & Ride from 4:45 a.m. through 5:45 a.m. The race starts at 6:30 a.m. Participants are asked to park at either the park & ride, Maunalua Bay or at Hawaii Kai Towne Center Executive Plaza. The costs are $30 for 12 and younger, $40 for 13 and older if postmarked by today. Fees rise if postmarked Saturday through Oct. 1 ($40 and $50) and on race day ($50 and $60).
Open house at Lawn Bowls Club
The Honolulu Lawn Bowls Club holds its annual open house on Oct. 12 at its Ala Moana Beach Park clubhouse from 9 a.m. until noon. The event includes free lessons and a continental breakfast. The clubhouse is located on the traffic circle across from McCoy Pavilion.
