1. Pick-six

» The Play: CB L.J. Jones intercepts QB Ikaika Woolsey’s pass and returns it 56 yards for a TD.
» Impact: Fresno State appears to have the game securely in hand with a 42-3 lead. Woolsey, a freshman making his first start, is done for the evening. He completed seven of 19 passes for 56 yards and was sacked five times.
» Woolsey: "I didn’t do a good job in getting the ball out of my hands quickly. I let the blitzes get to me. I have to do a better job of getting rid of the ball. No O-line in America can hold a block for eight to 10 seconds. I definitely put that first half on me."
2. Instant impact
» Situation: Fresno State 42, Hawaii 3, 6:01 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball, first and 10 at Fresno State 25
» The Play: QB Sean Schroeder enters the game and immediately throws a 60-yard pass to WR Chris Gant. On the next play RB Steven Lakalaka scores the first of his two touchdowns, on a 3-yard run.
» Impact: Hawaii starts an incredible run of 34 unanswered points with Schroeder at quarterback.
» Schroeder: "I put my head down and went to work. Coach tells us all the time: ‘Don’t look at the scoreboard.’ Honest to God, I didn’t look at the scoreboard, except for the clock."
3. Turnovers galore
» Situation: Fresno State 42, Hawaii 10, 3:46 remaining, third quarter, Fresno State ball, second and 10 at Hawaii 40
» The Play: LB Art Laurel intercepts a pass batted at the line of scrimmage.
» Impact: Schroeder immediately completes two passes, the second a 23-year touchdown to WR Keith Kirkwood. This was the second of five Fresno State turnovers.
» Hawaii coach Norm Chow: "We talked about it before the game. We said the turnovers were going to make a difference. Defensively, we had to go after it. We couldn’t wait for it to happen, and we couldn’t turn it over on offense."
4. Big stop
» Situation: Fresno State 42, Hawaii 37, 2:05 remaining, fourth quarter, Fresno State ball, third and 2 at own 49
» The Play: QB Derek Carr keeps and is stopped for a 1-yard loss by LB Brenden Daley.
» Impact: Fresno State is forced to punt for the second time in the game’s final four minutes and Hawaii gets one more chance to win the game.
» Schroeder: "The defense played great. I think we just fed off of one another. Kept it going and it was a beautiful thing."
5. Forty yards short
» Situation: Fresno State 42, Hawaii 37, 0:06 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball, second and 10 at Fresno State 40
» The Play: Schroeder throws for the end zone on a second and final Hail Mary attempt. Jones is the only player near the ball and gets his second interception, ending the game.
» Impact: Hawaii comes up short, but Schroeder completed 17 of 27 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns in less than one half of play.
» Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter: "To win a game on the road with five turnovers just doesn’t happen very often. At the end of the game we just needed someone to make a play and that happened twice."
