BYUH volleyball sweeps Holy Names
Shih Ting Chen had 14 kills and 12 digs to lead No. 6 Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-10 win over Holy Names in a Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball match Friday in Oakland.
Setter Ying Chun Chen had 32 assists for the Seasiders (9-1, 6-1). She also added nine kills with no errors in 10 attempts for a .900 hitting percentage. Erh Fang Hsu had seven kills and Noel Pauga had two blocks in the win. Rachel Vartanian had nine kills for Holy Names (0-16, 0-7).
» Fresno Pacific swept Chaminade 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 in Fresno, Calif. Rupia Inck had 14 kills and five blocks for the host Sunbirds (8-5, 3-3). Kim Spring had 13 kills for Chaminade (4-7, 1-5) and Brenda Walker had 12 digs.
» Dominican picked up its first league win with a 25-22, 17-25, 25-17, 25-9 victory over Hawaii Hilo in San Rafael, Calif. Jessica Jones had 16 kills for Dominican (2-13, 1-6). Callie Aberle led UHH (5-6, 0-6) with 15 kills and 14 digs. Hilo has lost six straight after starting the season 5-0.
UH sweeps at Anuenue Invitational
The University of Hawaii women’s tennis team won all four doubles matches and seven singles matches to sweep in Day 2 of the Anuenue Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex on Friday.
Five Rainbow Wahine players won their singles matches in straight sets over players from Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade. HPU’s Vivian Hansen held a slight edge over Rebecca Faltusz at 6-2, 2-6, 2-1, but the match was suspended due to rain. Hansen and Faltusz will finish their match today. The invitational begins at 10 a.m.
