For fans of Halloween horror, the only thing better than being scared is scaring someone else.
So why not make your own spooky movie?
It’s time for the Star-Advertiser’s second annual Halloween Video Contest, in which we celebrate your creepy sensibilities.
Our first contest drew a macabre collection of videos: There was a knife-wielding bride, a teenage massacre, an evil creature in the closet, zombies and a flesh-eating monster.
But we’re sure you can surprise us — and get us to jump out of our seats. Consider it a dare: See if you can scare us.
The rules
Entries should not exceed five minutes and must comprise original content that has not appeared elsewhere. Videos with excessive gore or violence will not be considered. There are two divisions: open and youth (students through grade 12).
The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Monday.
Upload entries to YouTube and email the URL to features@staradvertiser.com, along with information on the video, the filmmakers and your contact information.
The open-division winner will receive a $300 cash prize. The youth division prize is $100. (Students are welcome to enter the open division if they dare, but only one entry per person.) Finalists will be posted on HonoluluPulse.com the week before Halloween with the winners announced Oct. 31. The judges’ decisions are final.
The contest is open to Hawaii residents only; employees of Oahu Publications Inc. and their family members are not eligible. By entering the contest, you grant the Star-Advertiser a royalty-free license to use your video. Winners’ names and photos will appear in the Star-Advertiser.
