Popular Japanese-based Book-Off opens today at Windward Mall in Kaneohe as the mall announces other new tenants, most of them just for the holiday season.
The Windward Mall Book-Off store, on the lower level of the Macy’s wing, is the company’s third location on Oahu.
The Ala Moana Center store within Shirokiya was the company’s first international location. Another store later opened at Pearlridge Center Downtown.
The retailer is popular for used books and magazines including Japanese manga, priced starting at $1, as well as used anime and DVDs in other genres, video games and more, starting at $3. The store also purchases used media from customers.
Menehune Mac will return to Windward Mall as a regular holiday pop-up store, on the upper level, said Alex Kirley, the mall’s senior marketing manager.
"People love them," she said. The store can help customers customize and will mail out holiday gift baskets including chocolates and other Hawaii-made food and gift items.
See’s Candies will operate a holiday season kiosk beginning in early November, while Jeans Warehouse Kids and its lines of plus-size apparel for women will open on the upper level near Wet Seal.
Haley’s Christmas Trees will offer a variety of fir trees and wreaths in the Macy’s wing parking lot from Nov. 25 through Dec. 19.
Go! Calendars/Go! Games is open on the upper level of the Sports Authority wing, offering calendar-related products and games for all ages.
It is a pop-up store for holidays, and this is the second year it has returned to Windward Mall, Kirley said.
The new store openings announcement comes as Windward Mall launches its first re-branding and new logo in 30 years.
"We wanted to pick the right identity," Kirley said, and while several designs were under consideration, it was a walk around the mall that determined the final bird of paradise design for the logo.
Floral elements in its printed materials and advertising comprise mini-images of shopping bags, skirts, belts and other different retail items that reflect shoppers’ ranges of experiences at the mall.
