Mililani aced its second test against the OIA East on Tuesday.

Up next is the final exam.

The fourth-ranked Trojans ran their winning streak to 12 and stretched their run of consecutive sets won to 26 with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-19 sweep of Moanalua in the OIA Red girls volleyball playoffs Tuesday at McKinley.

After running the table in the OIA Red West, the Trojans have knocked off consecutive teams from the East, beginning with Castle last Thursday to clinch a state-tournament berth.

After blowing past Na Menehune (10-3), the Trojans play Thursday against No. 2 Kahuku, which remained undefeated in the tournament with a four-set win over Farrington in the first game played at McKinley.

"We watched the game before ours and we were just like, ‘Come on guys, let’s win tonight so we can play (Kahuku),’ " senior Sarah Liva said. "I feel like we can rise up to that challenge and represent well."

Liva finished with nine kills, behind only classmate Ashlee Vaoifi, who totaled a game-high 10.

Setter Jordyn Keamo spread the ball around to a variety of hitters. The 5-foot-9 senior finished with 28 assists to go along with seven kills, five digs and three aces.

Libero Kayla Magbaleta had a team-high 10 digs for Mililani.

"We kind of started off a little slow, but we pushed through that," Keamo said. "I think we had to get the nerves out."

Moanalua, which plays Aiea in an elimination game today at 5 at Farrington, threatened to end the Trojans’ streak of consecutive sets won at 23.

Mililani took its largest lead of the first set at 11-5 before Moanalua rallied with a 7-1 run to tie the game at 12-all.

A hitting error gave Moanalua its first lead of the match at 21-20, forcing Mililani coach Val Crabbe to call timeout.

Junior Silerolia Gaogao hammered the fifth of her game-high 13 kills to put Moanalua ahead 23-22 before Liva answered with her first kill to tie it at 23.

Jayierra Kapowai followed up an ace with a serving error to make it 24-all before a Vaoifi kill put Mililani ahead by one. Moanalua was then called for a double touch to end a set that was tied six different times.

"I don’t think it was the best we’ve played, but it’s the playoffs," Crabbe said. "The first set was really key."

Mililani led by as many as nine in the second set. Keamo had four of her seven kills as Mililani won it easily, hitting .360 to Moanalua’s .100.

Na Menehune battled back in the third set after falling behind 8-1.

They cut it to three points twice, beginning at 17-14 on one of Mililani’s four hitting errors and again at 20-17 on Marina Adolpho’s first kill.

Keamo and Kapowai combined to put down three straight kills, and a double block by Liva and Vaoifi ended it.

Mililani and Kahuku are the only two undefeated teams left in the double-elimination tournament and have combined to win the last five OIA Red championships.

"When it comes to the playoffs, you might not play your best game, but you’ve got to push through it," Crabbe said. "We haven’t seen (Kahuku) yet, so we’ll see."

Kahuku 3, Farrington 1

University of Utah commit Adora Anae put down a match-high 20 kills to lead the Red Raiders to a 21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 win over the Governors in Tuesday’s first match at McKinley.

Anae didn’t start the match, but entered the game with Kahuku (13-0) trailing 9-7. Farrington senior Savanah Kahakai had five of her team-high 13 kills in the first set and had a huge solo block on Anae as the Governors (10-4) won the final four points to take a 1-0 lead.

Kahuku took over from there. Freshman ShaRae Niu took over setting duties in the second set for starter Rachel Blake and finished with a team-high 34 assists.

Senior Sinamoni Tonga added 14 kills and Talia Brown chipped in 12 for Kahuku.

Pepe Laloulu and Skyler Taumua each had seven kills and Shaunalei Kahakai had 27 assists and two aces for Farrington.
