First Hawaiian marketing director to retire
First Hawaiian Bank executive Brandt Farias, marketing director and spokesman for the state’s largest bank, is retiring after 28 years with the institution.
Farias, 55, executive vice president and manager of the marketing communications division, began working for the bank in 1985 as manager of public relations. Farias has been responsible for overseeing the bank’s advertising, direct mail, special event and corporate communication departments as well as the wealth management, deposit and IRA product areas.
“First Hawaiian is a top-notch organization with first-class people,” Farias said. “There’s a reason why they have been successful for so long. They care about their customers, their community and their people. It was a privilege to play a small part in the bank’s success the past 28 years.”
His retirement is effective Nov. 1.
“Brandt did a tremendous job for us for a very long time and we wish him well in his retirement,” First Hawaiian President and CEO Bob Harrison said.

Broadband tests move into second phase
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs has launched the second phase of its Hawaii Broadband Map speed test campaign to gauge improvements in high-speed Internet service statewide over the past two years.
The department is asking Internet users to test their broadband speed by going to www.hibroadbandmap.org and clicking on the “speed test”button at the bottom of the page. The test, which takes just a few seconds, will tell users the upload and download speeds on their computer. It also sends the information, including the IP address of the computer, to a state database for analysis.
Because broadband speeds vary depending on a variety of factors, the state is urging users to take the test several times on different days and at different locations.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie launched the Hawaii Broadband Initiative in August 2011 with the goal of achieving one gigabit per second connectivity throughout the state by 2018.
