Fourteen albums by Hawaii recording artists and a slack-key album by California guitarist Patrick Landeza are in the running for Grammy Award consideration.

The Recording Academy, formerly the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, distributed the 2014 Grammy Awards preliminary ballot to its members Thursday. Being on the preliminary ballot is only the first step toward winning the coveted award. The academy will announce the finalists Dec. 6.

The winners will be announced at the 2014 Grammy Awards show Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Mountain Apple Co. record label released a list of the Hawaii and slack-key albums on the preliminary ballot in the best regional roots category, which includes Hawaiian, Cajun, zydeco, polka and Native American music. They are:

George Kahumoku Jr., a three-time Grammy-winning record producer, made the final ballot in the regional roots category in 2012. Weldon Kekauoha was Hawaii’s lone Grammy finalist for 2013.
