Randolph goes to Mid-Pacific bench
Former Chaminade hoops star Tony Randolph is joining Dwight Holiday’s coaching staff for the Mid-Pacific boys basketball program.
Randolph, a Silversword when Chaminade upset Ralph Sampson and the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers on Dec. 23, 1982, will specialize in coaching frontcourt players.
Randolph left a St. Francis School program that is coming off two undefeated seasons in Division II and an HHSAA Division II state title in 2013.
Mid-Pacific went 0-14 in ILH D-I play a year ago.
UH men’s golf team finishes ninth
Hawaii took ninth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational golf tournament on Tuesday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
UH shot a 13-over 877, 28 shots behind tournament winner Cal State Fullerton (849).
Hawaii freshman Skye Inakoshi, competing in just his third collegiate tournament, finished sixth overall, shooting a 5-under 211 for the tournament.
Champ Kipsang out of Honolulu Marathon
Wilson Kipsang, the defending Honolulu Marathon champion, will not return to Oahu to defend his title, race president Dr. Jim Barahal said on Tuesday.
Kipsang, who smashed the marathon world record by 15 seconds at last month’s Berlin Marathon, said the Berlin Marathon took more out of him than he expected and he will not run another marathon in 2013. The Honolulu Marathon takes place Dec. 8.
