Although later, tax man still cometh
Tax season delayed, the IRS proclaims. Hooray!
Not so fast. It’s only the start of processing of tax returns that is postponed, not the end. Taxpayers must still submit their returns by the usual April 15 deadline, so the ones who stand to be most affected are early filers with refunds, coming back up to two weeks later than usual.
The IRS says it needs that extra week or two at the start of tax season to fine-tune systems affected by the recent federal gridlock.
You know what they say about death and taxes. Turns out that even a government shutdown can’t make them less certain.
Liliha Bakery 2 is sweet news
From near and far, coco puff fans have descended on Liliha Bakery for decades. And it’s not just for those luscious puffs — coco, cream or otherwise flavored; folks wait patiently and around the clock for one of those 23 coveted seats at the eat-in counter. The hotcakes are heavenly, the food humble but literally hot off the grill — and watching the short-order chef methodically fill order after order is quite a show in itself.
Now comes a plan from owner Peter Kim to open a second Liliha Bakery, at the old Sam Choy’s eatery on Nimitz Highway. He plans to hire 70 employees for the new restaurant and have 165 — count ’em, 165 — seats.
Let’s see if the new place offers easy parking, and, of course, can capture the down-home charm of the original.
