Man critical after being struck by vehicle
A 21-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while he was waiting for a bus on the mauka side of Pearlridge Center.
The incident near Moanalua Road and Ualo Street took place at about 12:45 p.m., when the vehicle was involved in a separate crash and veered into the man, who fell over a railing, authorities said.
The man, who lives in Aiea, was taken to a hospital.
Police said the 22-year-old female driver was in serious condition when she was taken to a hospital.
A 63-year-old woman died Wednesday about a block away from Saturday’s incident. In the earlier collision, a motor vehicle also was involved in an accident with another vehicle and struck her.
Moped rider hospitalized after hitting pole
A 25-year-old man suffered critical injuries in a moped crash in Kailua just after 1 a.m. Saturday.
Paramedics took the man to the hospital in critical condition after the moped he was on hit a pole at Oneawa and Ulupaina streets, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. Police closed Oneawa Street between Punaa and Ulupaina streets while they investigated the crash.
Inmate allegedly job-hunting is still at large
Honolulu police and state sheriffs are looking for an Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate who failed to return Friday from a scheduled leave.
Charles Abellana was given a five-hour pass during which he was to have been seeking employment. He left at noon but failed to return as scheduled.
Abellana, 51, is 5 feet 6 inches tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was serving a sentence for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and was to have been released in December 2014.
Woman seriously hurt in apparent stabbing
A 27-year-old woman was in serious condition Friday night after an apparent stabbing in Kapahulu, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
Police closed Campbell Avenue in both directions between Kaunaoa Street and Monsarrat Avenue while they investigated the 10 p.m. incident.
The road was reopened at 12:29 a.m.
Theft suspect also lacks driver’s license
Police arrested a 21-year-old suspected moped thief who also was driving without a license in Waikiki early Saturday morning, according to police records.
When police stopped the Kalihi man for a traffic violation around 2:20 a.m. near Seaside Avenue and Ala Wai Boulevard, checks of the moped revealed that it was stolen, police said.
Police also discovered the man did not have a driver’s license. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and driving without a license.
Crash sends motorcyclist to hospital
A motorcyclist suffered a serious ankle injury Friday evening after he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and crashed at the intersection of Kinau and Keeaumoku streets.
Paramedics took the man, believed to be in his 50s, to the hospital in serious condition just before 7 p.m.
Police closed Keeaumoku Street at Kinau Street while they investigated the crash.
