Support artists at Trash & Treasure fair

TEMARI will host its 32nd Trash & Treasure Fundraiser Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i’s Manoa Grand Ballroom.

The event features sales of wares and gift items created by invited artists, including folk-art baskets, teapots, kimono and obi, and more, with funds supporting the organization’s Visiting Artists program.

There will also be unusual holiday gifts offered by other nonprofit organizations including Bamboo Ridge Press, Hawaii Potters’ Guild, Hui O Laulima and the Autism Society of Hawaii. Teachers who studied in Turkey over the summer on a Pacific and Asian Affairs Council-sponsored program will share their experience and authentic Turkish delight candy.

TEMARI, a nonprofit organization, is celebrating 34 years of perpetuating Asian and Pacific cultural traditions and nurturing contemporary art forms through educational programs, events, international exhibitions and entrepreneurship.

YWCA aids women returning to workforce

The YWCA of Oahu is hosting a benefit clothing sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Laniakea YWCA lobby at 1040 Richards St. Sales of new and used women’s clothing and accessories help to support economically disadvantaged women re-entering the workforce.

Head to cultural center for holiday sale

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i Community Gallery and Gift Shop will host a "Things Japanese Sale" timed for the holidays with everything from ceramic ware to Hinamatsuri dolls. The sale starts with a members’ preview from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday; regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 21. It will be closed Nov. 28 and 29.

Jewelry benefits breast cancer foundation

It’s the last day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the battle against the disease goes on year-round. Nalukai Jewelry founder and designer Tricia McCarthy developed her "Pretty in Pink" collection to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Fifty percent of net sales of each piece sold goes to the foundation. Collection pieces include:

Food donations will earn free beauty sessions

Remington College is hosting its "Cuts for Cause" event to collect food for needy families.

Anyone who brings in a can of food or other nonperishable food donation in November will get a complimentary haircut, manicure or pedicure. The salon services will be provided by students and instructors at the Paul Brown Institute at Remington College.

To make an appointment, call 587-8448. Walk-ins are also welcome from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
