Gold, watches lost to robbery
Several pieces of gold jewelry and wristwatches were stolen from a Hilo home on lower Haihai Street during the midmorning Wednesday, police said Thursday.
Police ask anyone who may have seen anything on lower Haihai Street between 8 a.m. and noon or who may have any information about this case to call officer Courtney Bello at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
Man arrested in fatal collision
Maui police arrested a 25-year-old Waihee man Tuesday in connection with the fatal motor vehicle crash Monday on Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide; driving without a valid license; first-degree methamphetamine trafficking; third-degree promoting dangerous drugs; third-degree detrimental drugs; and other drug offenses.
According to police, a 2004 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle traveling west on Waiehu Beach Road struck the back of a moped at the intersection with Linekona Place. The motorcycle continued west and sideswiped the left side of a car parked along the shoulder of the road.
The moped rider, identified as Earle Maielua, 47, of Wailuku, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Human remains are identified
Hawaii County police have identified the human remains found in Kailua-Kona on Sept. 27 as belonging to Lloyd Tiedeman.
The body was identified through X-rays. Tiedeman, 51, had no permanent address in Kailua-Kona.
An autopsy determined that he died of natural causes.
