Fight global warming with a free tree
Halloween is a much bigger occasion than, say, Arbor Day, right?
While the annual holiday in honor of tree-planting has been observed in Hawaii since 1872, it doesn’t sound like something to whip up a froth of excitement.
All the same, although Friday was the official observance, the truly big deal happens today, and it’s pretty remarkable. The giveaways of tree saplings and potted shrubs start at 7 a.m. today in several locations (check out arbordayhawaii.org/events/). And the real enthusiasts tell us that folks start lining up at 5 a.m.
There aren’t too many holidays with devotees as motivated as that.
