Hong Kong fund buys stake in Hawaiian Air
A Hong Kong-based investment fund has taken a 5 percent stake in Hawaiian Airlines’ parent company.
Oasis Management has purchased more than 2.6 million shares of Hawaiian Holdings Inc.’s 52.4 million outstanding shares, according to a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Oasis is now Hawaiian’s fourth-largest shareholder behind Hirzel Capital Management, 10.8 percent; Artisan Partners Holdings, 7.9 percent; and Blackrock, 5.8 percent.
Hawaiian, which has been aggressively expanding in Asia, plans to begin three-days-a-week service to Beijing in April.
The company’s stock fell 5 cents Monday to $8.31.
American Savings makes best-workplace list
American Savings Bank was the only Hawaii bank to be named on an inaugural list of 2013’s "Best Banks to Work For" by American Banker Magazine. The list names a total of 35 top banks in three categories, according to the survey by GoBankingRates.com.
American Savings was listed in the category for banks with assets of between $3 billion and $10 billion.
HECO unveils Ohana Energy Gift Program
Hawaiian Electric Co. and its subsidiaries announced a program Monday that allows its customers to make bill payments for other utility customers.
Under the new "Ohana Energy Gift Program," customers of Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light can make payments toward a designated recipient’s electric account. The recipient will receive an acknowledgement letter once the gift amount has been applied to his or her account.
The gift may be anonymous, or the gift giver may choose to also send a special acknowledgement card with a personalized message, according to a news release from HECO. If a recipient is not designated, the energy gift will be given to individuals and families in need.
