Pepperdine’s Chow named WCC’s golfer of the month
Pepperdine sophomore Marissa Chow (‘Iolani ’12) was recognized Tuesday as the West Coast Conference’s female golfer of the month.
Chow was the Waves’ top finisher at both October tournaments, finishing 11th at the Stanford Intercollegiate and tied for 16th at the Schooner Fall Classic.
Three of her six rounds were below par as she averaged 71.67 strokes per round for the month. Chow finished in the top 20 in all four fall tournaments and is ranked fifth nationally by Golfstat and ninth by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Oregon’s Isagawa ties for third in Pac-12 Preview
Oregon junior Cassy Isagawa (Baldwin ’11) recorded the second-lowest round in program history on Monday and finished in a tie for third place at 6 under on Tuesday at the inaugural Pac-12 Preview in Kailua-Kona. Isagawa opened the day on Monday carding a 6-under 67. The two-time All-Pac-12 selection played every hole at par or better and was 6 under through her first nine holes, opening on No. 13. She made five consecutive birdies at one point. Isagawa finished the tournament with consecutive rounds of even-par 73 to finish two shots behind the leader.
Second-ranked Southern California fired a final-round 289 at Nanea Golf Club to win the event by a shot over top-ranked UCLA. The Trojans finished at 15-under-par 861. UCLA’s Bronte Law, who shot an 8-under-par 65 in Monday’s second round, earned medalist honors at 8-under 211.
Washington junior Cyd Okino (Punahou ’11) finished in a tie for 26th place at 5 over at the Pac-12 Preview. Okino opened with a 1-under 72, but was doomed after shooting 5 over during Monday’s afternoon round.
