BYUH men picked to finish third in PacWest
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s men’s basketball team has been picked to finish third in the Pacific West Conference’s 2013-2014 preseason coaches’ poll.
Dixie State, led by preseason player of the year Zach Robbins, was picked to finish first and Fresno Pacific second. Chaminade was picked to finish fourth, Hawaii Pacific seventh and Hawaii Hilo 11th.
Joining Robbins on the All-PacWest team were Lee Bailey, Chaminade; DeAndre Medlock, BYUH; Malte Ziegenhagen, HPU; Malcolm Griffin, Fresno Pacific; Dalton Groskreutz, Dixie State; and Troy Leaf, Azusa Pacific.
Academy of Art was the coaches’ pick to win the women’s title, followed by Azusa Pacific, California Baptist and Hawaii Pacific.
Hawaii Hilo was picked to finish seventh, BYU-Hawaii tied for ninth and Chaminade 13th.
Kelly Hardeman of Azusa Pacific was voted preseason player of the year. Others on the team were Skye Savini, HPU; Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo, BYUH; Regina Camera and Sha’Nice Storey, Academy of Art; Callie Rhoads, Point Loma; and Keairra White, Fresno Pacific.
BYUH sweeps Azusa Pacific in volleyball
Shih Ting Chen had 20 kills and 14 digs Thursday as No. 4-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii swept Azusa Pacific in a Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball match in Azusa, Calif., 25-22, 25-17, 27-25. The Seasiders are 21-1 overall and 16-1 in the PacWest, the Cougars 17-8 and 9-6.
