Fugitive found, returned to Oahu prison
Honolulu police found an escaped inmate and returned him to the Oahu Community Correctional Center on Sunday morning.
Jarret Derego failed to return to the facility after a furlough Nov. 4.
Derego was serving time for violating an order of protection and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Derego will face an second-degree escape charge.
Waianae man is charged in assault
Police charged a 20-year-old Waianae man for repeatedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman.
According to police, Rein Keliihoomalu violated terms of a temporary restraining order three times between Tuesday and Saturday.
On Tuesday, Keliihoomalu approached and struck the victim, police said. The next day, he again approached her and choked her, police said.
Keliihoomalu violated the protective order again Saturday and was arrested.
Police charged Keliihoomalu on Sunday with two counts of second-degree assault. His aggregate bail was set at $25,000.
