Computers are revolutionizing the world of sewing, adding variety beyond basic stitching.
Bernina of America is hosting "Made to Create" educational events with Debbi Lashbrook, an expert on its We All Sew blog, this weekend to demonstrate a range of tools now available to home seamstresses.
Lashbrook’s "Dazzling Dimensions with DesignWorks" classes will take place at two US Sewing and Vacuum stores:Friday at the Pearl City location and Saturday in Honolulu. The workshops will demonstrate the capabilities of Bernina’s latest software, DesignWorks, which includes CutWork, PaintWork and CrystalWork software.
With CutWork, shapes, patterns and designs are cut from multiple layers of fabric. PaintWork allows the application of pen drawings to fabric and textiles. Crystal applique patterns are created for textiles and garments using CrystalWork.
The software is compatible with Bernina embroidery machine models B 580, B 750 QE, B 780 and B 830.
Videos online at Bernina.com offer an overview of the process.
Sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The Pearl City store is at 719 Kamehameha Highway. Call 488-8889. The Honolulu store is at 670 Auahi St., 536-6044. Tickets are $19.99 and include lunch. Register in person or by phone.
