Kirk qualifies for Kapalua
Chris Kirk is the latest to qualify for January’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
The winner of this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba will be the last.
There are 35 golfers eligible to play on Maui in the PGA Tour’s first start of 2014 (Jan. 3-6).
The list includes Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, Brandt Snedecker, defending champion Dustin Johnson and Sony Open in Hawaii champ Russell Henley.
Henley will defend his title the following week (Jan. 9-12) at Waialae Country Club, in 2014’s first full-field event.
Kirk’s McGladrey Classic win was his second on tour. He played at Kapalua after capturing the 2011 Sanderson Farms Championship, tying for seventh.
Volunteers are needed for the TOC. For information, contact Tiffany DeLeon (tdeleon@TroonGolf.com or 808-662-7702).
The tournament is also encouraging local non-profit organizations to raise money by selling tickets, for the third year in a row. The Golf for Maui Charities program allows charities to keep all net proceeds from tickets they sell.
There is no cost to participate.
Charities will sell Good Any Day Grounds ticket, good any one day of the tournament and costing $20, along with weekly grounds tickets, good for all competitive rounds and costing $45.
The PGA Tour provides registered non-profits with marketing materials that can be customized and distributed in support of promotional efforts.
